How can I get VLC to get the "focus" when I double-click a movie file, and while VLC is already open/running?

Running VLC 3.0.4 Vetinari on Linux Mint 19.1 Cinnamon. I usually start playback of a movie by doubleclicking the movie file in my Nemo file explorer. VLC opens up and starts playing.
I noticed something:
Situation 1. If VLC is not currently open/running when I double click the movie file, VLC will appear on the forefront and will have the focus (with regard to keyboard and mouse). This is just the way I like it.
Situation 2. But if VLC is currently running/open when I double click a movie file, VLC will still stay in the background. I have to manually put the focus on VLC.
How can I get VLC to get the focus, even if it's currently open/running (Situation 2)?
Thanks.
