[Bug] Subtitles aren't displayed anymore

Hi! :D
I've updated today to VLC 3.0.7 Vetinari
I'm on Manjaro (Arch Linux variant)

Since my update (I don't remember which version of VLC it was just before but I update quite often), I can't display any subtitles (srt, vtt...). There is no message in the log window. I've tried to run it by command line and there's still no error message.
It works fine with other players (like Bomi for example).

Do you have the same problem? :?:

Hi,

I have no issues on Archlinux, can you provide logs and a sample somehow ? (drive, pastebin)
To help you, we need messages, to completely understand what your problems is.
To fix this, please be sure before you start the playback to:
  1. Open: Tools -> Messages.
  2. Set Verbosity to 2
  3. Start playback to reproduce your issue
  4. Save text in a file or copy into clipboard
  5. Then paste the full resulting log here between [code]and[/code] (or use Pastebin.com if it's too long)
Also don't forget to name your Operating System and provide the VLC media player version.

Thanks @unidan!

Here's the messages:

Code: Select all

main debug: toggling pause main debug: toggling pause main debug: toggling pause pulse debug: suspended pulse debug: changing sink 0: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo (Built-in Audio Analog Stereo) pulse debug: started main debug: toggling resume main debug: toggling resume main debug: toggling resume dbus_screensaver debug: got cookie 58 pulse debug: changing sink 0: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo (Built-in Audio Analog Stereo) main debug: auto hiding mouse cursor pulse debug: suspended pulse debug: changing sink 0: alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1b.0.analog-stereo (Built-in Audio Analog Stereo)
Here, I'm trying to add the subtitle track:
https://pastebin.com/3G7GDwCy

By the way, I've downgraded to VLC 3.0.6 to test it and the subtitles are displayed again. Re-Upgrading to VLC 3.0.7: subtitles don't work anymore...

Maybe it's worth mentioning: I'm using this plugin in addition to VLC: https://github.com/nurupo/vlc-pause-click-plugin
(not related to subtitles directly)

Okay, it's working now with the 3.08-1 version (I was waiting it appears in my repo since I got bug when trying to build from sources).
Admins can mark it as [Solved].
Thanks a lot to the devs! :D

Same case with the embedded subs into avi file , latest update 3.0.8 even doesn't detect them ( inactive button) . The downgrade to earlier versions with cache and settings clearing didn't help - they started to act the same. Damn I used to use vlc for a long time , looks like time switch to alternatives like gom or so . Same issue with another PCs and same file . OS - Win10 64b, Laptop Lenovo Y510p .

P.S. Neither of advices listed had worked in my case , including nightlies.
