Loading MOV file cause system freeze [Ubuntu Mate 19.04] [solved]
Posted: 01 May 2019 21:42
Hi.
I'm currently trying to use the version of VLC that shipped along with Ubuntu on install, that is version 3.0.6.
I run an old computer and two screens.
After installing Ubuntu I also installed the ffmpeg package using Synaptic Package manager. ffmpeg version 4.1.1-1
Currently connected to the computer is a DOD LS460W camera. (path to where images are located: /media/toxuser/14D6-D328/CARDV/MOVIE)
Following actions will make the whole system to freeze (mouse pointer can be moved, but nothing is clickable)
* Opening folder location (/media/toxuser/14D6-D328/CARDV/MOVIE)
* Opening any .MOV file in VLC.
Seems it hangs in the very moment VLC is supposed to start reading a video file.

[edit]
I now found an MKV file to try to play (Both .MOV file and .MKV resolutions is 1920px wide HD) and it seemingly started playing, but after ~3 seconds it also hang and caused a full system freeze.
I also tried to change display settings so that the screens are mirrored, but that had zero effect.
