VLC 3.0 RC 5 Media>Open File gives no Local Network Locationss

On Ubuntu 17.10 it is not possible to open a file on another PC through the main menu Media tab. You can only open local files stored on the host system. That this feature is missing is unbelievable in something called RC 5 and available through Ubuntu's Software Centre. It is available on the Windows version of VLC so it's definitely not a feature change.

What tab? The open file dialog is provided by your desktop environment, not by VLC. On KDE, I have a network tab there (provided by KDE).

OK, I accept that but I suspect it may not be being invoked by VLC correctly because there are no network locations visible as you would normally expect. If you call Ubuntu's file manager directly there is a whole section headed NETWORKS which is missing when it is called from VLC>MEDIA>OPEN FILE. Additionally the bottom line of the Ubuntu file manager there is the option to connect to a server and a window to input the server address, that is also missing.

OK, got to the bottom of this first off it is ver. 3.0 RC3 and secondly it relates only to the snap store version available in Ubuntu Software. The issue being that as of today's date snap programs cannot access directories/folders/files outside of your Home Directory. A bug has been submitted re this behaviour but it is unclear whether or not this behaviour was intended. DEB versions of this software are not affected.
