Command Line Record vs. Record Button via UI

Postby ThePowerTool » 26 Nov 2017 02:42

I've figured out how to play a video from --start-time [sec] to --stop-time [sec] successfully.

I have found instructions on how to "record" ("save") to a file name via CL--https://wiki.videolan.org/Documentation ... m_with_VLC

How do I access the "Record" button or hot-key via CL?

What I'm looking for: I'd like to avoid re-inventing the wheel. When I press the Record button via the UI it uses data to fill in sout details like format, file destination, and file name. Are these variables exposed for CL access or is there a way to access the UI "Record" button via CL?

I can develop a bash script to capture the dst prefix and file name to then manually provide that data via CL but it seems like I am doing double-duty as this was already done within vlc at the time of CL execution.

Thanks!

1. The record button is not available via CLI. Use sout chain instead.
2. The record button hot key is whatever you configured it to be.

Is there CL access to the "pre-configured" variables available to the UI Record button? I was just hoping to avoid writing a script to duplicate what's already there (e.g. sout "use the Record button variables").
