I am trying to stream a Youtube video.
I have taken the following steps, but I just see an error. Where am I going wrong.
The Steps:
Step 1: Locate your favorite YouTube video URL. Just include the domain and video ID, like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=abcdefgh.
Step 2: Click the Media menu in VLC, then choose Open Network Stream.
Step 3: Paste the URL into the text box and click Play at the bottom!

UPDATE:
Hi,
I cannot stream Youtube videos with VLC.
I note errors.
I have looked at the folder: /usr/lib/vlc/playlist and note that I have youtube.luac, but not youtube.lua. Is this the source of my problem?
If so, where can I get the file? It is not in the kubuntu repo.
Thanks.

YouTube always need a very very recent VLC, as the protocol keeps changing. If you use VLC from Ubuntu LTS, you are pretty much out of luck.

Evidently some users of my OS (kubuntu) can stream videos from youtube using the same version of vlc (2.2.2) that I have. However, they have more up to date OS's (ver 16 vs my ver 14).
Can you suggest how I can stream youtube videos using vlc?
I note that I do not have youtube.lua. I don't know why.
Can I obtain this file and put it into the the folder.
Or, it it best to locate another videoplayer
Regards

A couple of questions:
Should I be able to stream TV programmes that have html extensions?
How can I identify TV streams, and especially their extensions?
Thanks
PS. Tips for using VLC (2.2.2), under kubuntu (14.04) welcome

When I stream using VLC do I need to use my IP address and port number?
Are there any test streams that I can use to check the functionality of VLC?
