Hello,

Compiling VLC on Linux (whatever) platform is a nightmare. Is it possible for people who have succesfully build VLC on Linux platforms (e.g., Fedora Core 3/4) to actually make it available in some binary format?

I am sure this would be much appreciated by a large number of people.

Compiling VLC itself is quite easy. The problem is the 40-odd libraries vlc depends of.

I don't want to be controversial or launch a flamewar but i notice that only people using rpm based ditros ( fc, mandriva) have problems. So i will tends to think that either the package manager of those distro is crappy or the package for vlc are boggus.

Btw, which package have you tried ? freshrpm, ... ?

Due to differences in libraries and compiler version, it is not possible to provide a general binary, so i'm afraid you'll have to cope with the limitation of your distro.

hth,
