Playing music from SD card through VLC

Hey All:
Want to access my audio files from SD card through VLC. How-to?? BTW...when SD card is in my smartphone, audio files (songs) from the phone's internal storage does not show up. What do I need to do? [Coolpad Arise 5560s~Kk 4.4.2~VLC 2.0.6]
