anyway to get h3600 version working?

Postby deekan » 26 Oct 2005 16:01

hello,

i have had familiar v 0.8.2 running ever since it became stable and all i
really want to use my ipaq for is for a portable media player, however due to the constraints of internal memory, i am unable to successfully install any media player(video or mp3 player). i have tried pretty much all i could find, xine and mplayer from ipkgfind, and specifically the h3600 version of VLC(because i hear its the best for familiar), as well as old versions of VLC. all attempts to install one of these players has resulted in errors saying there is not enough space left on the device to update some status file(dont remember exactly what the error said) even though i have uninstalled nearly all unneccesary ipkgs like the calendar, calculator, rosetta, wifi, ipv6, irda, plucker, etc etc...

so my question is, is there any media player i can successfully use on my
old 3630? or should i just not bother anymore : ( ?

VLC on Familiar Linux

Postby bobbinette » 23 Nov 2005 20:55

I have installed VLC on Familiar about 2 years ago and if I remember well I used ipkg to install all dependencies packages. For VLC, I installed the binary version for iPaq Familiar from the VLC web site. I don't remember having memory problems but I guess you could install VLC on a memory card. You will however need a CF sleeve with a CF memory card to do this. And also don't forget to run the ipkg utility in superuser mode because if it tries to access a file that is owned by root it could report memory problem when it is an access problem in reality.
Hope this helps
