Play BluRays with Menus (vlc-3.0.0)

I am running openSUSE Leap 42.1 x86-64 and have the following Java-Software installed :

libjavascriptcoregtk-3_0-0-2.4.10-10.1.x86_64
libjavascriptcoregtk-1_0-0-2.4.10-7.2.x86_64
java-1_7_0-openjdk-headless-1.7.0.101-31.1.x86_64
javapackages-tools-2.0.1-10.1.x86_64
java-1_7_0-openjdk-1.7.0.101-31.1.x86_64
java-1_7_0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.1-1.2.x86_64
java-1_8_0-openjdk-1.8.0.91-12.1.x86_64
java-1_8_0-openjdk-headless-1.8.0.91-12.1.x86_64
timezone-java-2016f-0.22.1.noarch
java-1_8_0-openjdk-plugin-1.6.1-1.2.x86_64
libjavascriptcoregtk-4_0-18-2.10.7-7.1.x86_64

libbluray-bdj-0.8.1-3.2.noarch

I am running the BluRay from the "Open Disc" button - the BluRay is a mounted ISO-file image.
The BluRay starts and gets to the BluRay Menu, but on this menu I am not able to do any selection.

I tried the also fedora 24, but here I was less successful, here vlc claims that no java is installed.

Is there any linux distribution or Windows 10, where you can play BluRays with Menus ?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Take care,

Winfrid

Just an update for my post - the only selection I can do on the Menu is "Play everything" (hit enter), but I am not able to do the selection of an episode, to run the "Setup", ...

Are you sure your VLC build is correctly built against libbluray ?

Hello Jean-Baptiste,

many thanks for your quick reponse. I hope that the people, who build vlc-beta for openSUSE (Packman repository) know what they are doing.

Do you have logs and screenshots?

Hello Jean-Baptiste,

I have prepared 3 screenshot - they were taken under Windows 10 (64-bit) using vlc-2.2.4, but the behavior of Linux is quite identical
same behavior on ubuntu 16.04 LTS (amd64) with vlc-2.2.2 from the ubuntu distribution.

vlc-screen-shot-1 : how I start vlc (default (pre-selection) is "No disc-menus" )
vlc-screen-shot-2 : vlc tries to continue the playback (I cannot switch from "fortsetzen=continue" to "Zurück zum Anfang"), hitting "enter" continues the playback
vlc-screen-shot-3 : Startmenu for a fresh started BluRay - buttons for "Play all", "Episodes", "Setup" and "Extras" are missing

The situation for openSUSE Leap 42.1 (x86-64) and vlc-3.0.0 is similar with small differences
vlc-screen-shot-1 : how I start vlc (No pre-selection of "No disc-menus" )
vlc-screen-shot-3 : Startmenu for a fresh started BluRay - buttons for "Play all", "Episodes", "Setup" and "Extras" are displayed,
"Play all" is selected, but I cannot chance to any other button. "enter" starts the playback.

On fedora 24 (x86-64) and vlc-3.0.0 I get the message java not installed.

Take care,

Winfrid

The screenshot (folder) are available on https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bw_el ... ndIY2ExaE0

PS.: How do I get logs, which information should be in the logs.

You need to install java.

Hello Jean-Baptiste,

you are confusing me - on Windows 10 jre1.8.0_101 is installed in C:\Programme (x86)\Java
I am not familiar with JAVA
but I checked "Log for vlc-screen-shot-2.log" and found

BDJSecurityManager.java:org.videolan.BDJSecurityManager.checkPermission:176: *** caught java.security.AccessControlException: access denied ("java.net.URLPermission" "http://wblive.warnerbros.com/web/Bootstrap" "GET:WBLIVE-DISC-ID") at

Also on my 3 Linux installations JAVA JRE is installed.

What does vlc need to find my JAVA ?

Take care,

Winfrid

Sorry, but are you talking of Linux or Windows?

Hello Jean-Baptiste,

the behavior of vlc 2.2.4 Windows 10, vlc 2.2.2 ubuntu 16.04 and vlc 3.0.0 openSUSE Leap 42.1 is the same.
The BluRay starts and shows all the items you see when you are playing the disc on BluRay Player.
All seems to be correct until you reach the Main Disc Menu, the options are displayed, but you can select only the high-lighted option -
it is not possible to switch to one of the other options.

2.2.x does not activate the menu, you need to activate it manually.
3.0 on openSuse warned you that you did not have the correct java -> no menu.

In the meantime the problems on openSUSE Leap 42.1 and on Windows 10 x64 are solved with the latest updates of vlc-3.0.0

the error on fedora 24 still exists, so I have issued 2 incidents :
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1380437
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4270

But you can't select the options with the mouse on the menus - you have to use the cursor-keys.
In case of HDMV menus the selection with the mouse was available.
