Bluray Playback Troubles - 1 of 15 discs working so far

I am trying to play back Bluray discs on Debian Jessie 64 bit with a new LG USB Bluray player. I am using Alsa so I have already increased the disc buffer from 300 to 30000 to solve the "core input error: ES_OUT_SET_(GROUP_)PCR is called too late (pts_delay increased to 300 ms)" problem. The following are the results of every one of my "single movie" Bluray discs.

"Blow": Every 3 minutes or so the playback freezes for a few seconds and starts again with:

So out of 15 Bluray discs I am currently only able to play 1 without trouble. What would cause this discrepancy?

I'm not sure if these problems are related to the fix I have already applied or not. However, I don't think it's a coincidence that the Star Trek Movie works and nothing else does. Other Paramount discs I tried don't work. I think we should be "allowed" to watch movies other than Star Trek.

Possible fixes:
1. Obtain VLC 2.2.2 - will probably be in for a long compile
2. Fix by Modax here: https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/10422 - not currently using dmix and not sure how this will relate to HDMI sound
3. Use Pulseaudio - this does not work for me to get HDMI sound and I do not use Pulseaudio as a rule
