Delays when playing/seeking video content using v2.2.2 under Arch

I am experiencing delays when seeking video content using vlc version 2.2.2-3 under Arch Linux. Is there a good way to debug? I have tried both the official package and also building from git (r6951.g46e250e) but both suffer from the same delays upon seeking. In contrast, using mpv to play the same video results in fluid/smooth seeks.

My hardware is an i7-4790K which uses the HD 4600 onboard graphics.

When I seek in the video, vlc outputs the following to the shell:
