VLC not displaying video on Ubuntu 15.10

Postby behrangsa » 08 Feb 2016 08:00

Please see this bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1512993

I've also uploaded a couple of videos that show the problem: http://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/very-unst ... -10/2302/1

Here's a video that you can download to reproduce the problem (the link expires in seven days): https://www.dropbox.com/s/2ox5i0qm3g3o9 ... g.mp4?dl=0

My system specs:

* CPU: Core i7 6700
* Graphics: Integrated Graphics
* Ubuntu 15.10
* Kernel: 4.2.0-27-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 22 04:49:08 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
* Desktop: Unity
* VLC: 2.2.1

I have also installed Intel Graphics for Linux: https://01.org/linuxgraphics/downloads/ ... inux-1.2.1

If you need more details, please let me know.

Thanks,
Behrang

Well if it affects not only VLC but also smplayer and Chrome, it's most likely a display driver issue. And in any case, it is not a problem with VLC, so we cannot really help here.

Hi Remi,

The SMPlayer issues got fixed by following the solution provided here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/731047/v ... 564#731564

However the solution provided for VLC didn't work.

I ran VLC in verbose mode and I got this in the output:

Code: Select all

VLC_VERBOSE=1 vlc VLC media player 2.2.1 Terry Pratchett (Weatherwax) (revision 2.2.1-0-ga425c42) [0000000001103148] core libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Based on this log output, can you think of a solution?

Thanks,
Behrang

Hi,

I installed libvdpau_va_gl and deleted ~/.config/vlc to reset VLC's config and now I am getting these errors in the log output:

Hi,
from OpenSuse forums: I found a work around: Tools-->Preferences-->Input/Codes -->Hardware-accelerated decoding: VA-API video decoder via X11.

this option is in different place now(I'm on Debian unstable), it's Input Codecs/Video/FFMPEG. There you select "hardware decoding" and its option "va api via X11", and I have set XVideo output module.
