Couldn't find package vlc

Postby Kestrel » 09 Oct 2005 16:47

Hi all,

So I just installed me the latest stable version of Ubuntu (5.04). And, of course, I wanted to install VLC. So I added the following line in /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/debian sarge main
deb-src http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/debian sarge mai

Then I do a #sudo apt-get update and I get these lines (among others, of course) :

Ign http://download.videolan.org sarge Release.gpg
Ign http://download.videolan.org sarge Release
Ign http://download.videolan.org sarge/main Packages
Ign http://download.videolan.org sarge/main Sources
Hit http://download.videolan.org sarge/main Packages
Hit http://download.videolan.org sarge/main Sources

Then I do a #sudo apt-get install vlc ibdvdcss2 and get the following :

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree... Done
E: Couldn't find package vlc

I'm fairly new to Ubuntu so, uh, is there something I did wrong ?

Cheers,

- K.

I've got this same problem, although if you do "sid" instead of "sarge" it comes up .... libdvdcss2 doesn't though in either case. Any ideas?

Found the answer here. Uncomment those lines in your apt sources file and it'll find it. :) Yay ... still no libdvdcss2 though ...
