ok, I have no idea what will be needed to figure this one out but here goes:

when I try to play a dvd, the drive spins up and VLC expands like it is going to play a movie BUT then all I get is a blank grey window with a single black pixel in the top left corner.

I have dual dvd drives (one player one burner) I have tried it in both and still same thing, it spinns up then nothing.

any ideas?

Any error messages in view/messages or in console with -vvvv
