VLC starting without controls or context menu access.

Postby Landis » 15 Mar 2015 18:13

Hello...

I recently changed the skin to eDark.vlt while in an Enlightenment session.
VLC played for a while and then crashed. I had to kill -9 the process. I was dragging system to a stand still.

Now, in both Enlightenment and KDE, VLC starts without any controls, menu, context menus, kb shortcuts... Nothing.
It looks just like mvp (mplayer without any frontent, eg, smplayer, mplayer, kmplayer etc.. ).
I can 'X' it out (quit), but the process continues (audio continues to play) and I again have to kill it.

I've removed All of the vlc packages several times and have searched (find / ! \( -name \.snapshots -prune \) -name '*vlc*' ) and have removed every reference to VLC and reinstalled it again, both from opensuse and packman, trying both the release vlc and vlc-beta packages.

I can NOT get VLC to start with a skin, theme whatever that will give me back controls or at least context menus.

I'm running openSuse 13.2 and KDE 4.14.x and Enlightenment 19.3.x with all updates. (obviously, not in same session : )

I've looked at vlc -H (help) and tried to start with default or known good them, but It doesn't. Just starts with video window like mvp without controls.

Any ideas?
Thank you, in advance.
Landis.

ps, the eDark theme worked for a long time and looked beautiful. I think this happened when i tried to use another theme, and i don't remember which one. (http://aaron-a-arts.deviantart.com/art/ ... -189826507)

after removing, deleting, un-installing everything VLC and Re-Installing for the 6th or 7th time, this time from multimedia repe, vers 2.2 - all is good.
I like the now configuration dialog. Nice.

Thanks,
Landis.
opensuse repo:
add as su, with zypper:

Code: Select all

# zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/multimedia:/libs/openSUSE_13.2/ multimedia_libs
