How to build with Intel C++ compiler?

Hello
I have built the "packman" version of vlc [1] successfully. My machine is a 4xPentiumPro Compaq, running SuSE 9.3. I'd like to throw more than one CPU at the player since the single-thread player stalls on playing video files from the harddisk. I have access to the Intel C++ compiler [2] which has a -parallel option that will auto-parallelise the code. Has anyone tried to build with the Intel compiler? Does anyone know of any reason it shouldn't work or any big hurdles in the way?
Thanks
Themos
