VDPAU freezes my video

Postby xr200 » 22 Apr 2014 02:42

I'm running this version of VLC (from PCLinuxOS):

VLC version 2.1.4 Rincewind (2.1.4-0-g2a072be)

I have this (pretty new) NVidia video card:

VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK208
[GeForce GT 640 Rev. 2]

I using the nvidia driver version 319.49. I haven't done
anything with nvidia-settings to change any of the
default driver settings.

If I set Hardware-accelerated decoding to Disabled, I can play
back video and audio fine. But if I set Hardware-accelerated
decoding to Automatic or VDPAU, my video is either blank or
frozen; the audio continues along just fine.

I've left all the other options alone (set to default values).

I know the card supports VP; the same files playback fine
with mplayer with vdpau enabled.

What can I do to get VDPAU acceleration working with VLC?

For VDPAU, you should use VLC 2.2.0

Before posting, I did read the documentation that states:

"VDPAU is supported for decoding since VLC version 2.1.0, and for post-processing and rendering since VLC 2.2.0"

I just didn't understand it :-)

Thanks for quickly setting me straight.
