I've been using VLC for years and LOVE it. However, now it's not working. Today I looked into the settings to make it my default player on Ubuntu 12.04. Well, apparently in some setting I messed things up. It stopped launching. Or, it would launch and flash some square box in the middle of my screen, then immediately crash. So, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Same result. So, I uninstalled, rebooted the comp, and reinstalled. I did these steps over and over. It's still not working. What have I missed? I just want my VLC working again.

i'm having a similar problem. vlc won't open anymore, and for no apparent reason. it just stopped launching giving me this message when i try to open it interminal with -vvv option:
last line is in spanish, but I believe it means "Bus error ('core' dumped)".

i didn't find a bug report about this... is it a VLC or Ubuntu 13.10 problem?

Install is broken. Reinstall.
