How can I move the VLC window by dragging the video screeen

I would like the ability to move the VLC window by simply dragging any part of the video screen (instead of just dragging the titlebar) by clicking the left mouse button and moving the mouse. The only way I can get this to work in Ubuntu Linux/Linux Mint is to hold the ALT key down, then use the mouse. VLC will do this by the way in the Mac OS as I've tried it, just not in Linux. Can anyone help me?

Hello,

is there any chance to see this feature on Linux one day ? Is it due to a limitation in X11 / Wayland as opposed to the graphical UI on Mac OS ?

this would be a really nice feature, much appreciated

I believe this is something you must configure in your window manager as opposed to VLC.

hello,

sorry to reply so late !
i'm having this feature in another video player on windows OS, it is quite useful !
VLC did not have it but it was !

any chance it exists in option or confirguration ?

moving the application just by drag (left click into the vidéo, handle down then move the mouse and release the click) is very useful !! i confirm !

best regards

There is no option because nobody implemented it.

so, in the hard code (programming) there is no event, no listener event, no function , on "left clic video area" ? Well, it is a hole in the wall of features!
only dbl-click (fullscreen switch) and right click (contextual menu) are used.

VLC team should add a event on left click short, left click down, left click drag'n' drop
Also, a super feature would be left click to select a area in the video and direct zoom-pan in ! (crop the other part). With such feature, i would have watch SnyderCut 4:3 movie in better condition by selecting the 16:10 area and zoom in!

an example of daily use of such feature :

i work in school, i needed to advise teachers a mediaplayer application to help them to display many videos on the same screen to switch between lesson and alternate behaviours suck play-pause-drag-sortig the window's players.

on a big touchscreen, it is very useful and "hanfful" to perform that to educate and provide the lessons,courses..

Even if VLC coders does not want to code the hard part, they should add an option to let the users choose theywant to do on click event. so They could select a macro, a local script, a basic feature (pause-play...)...
