VLC Crashes X Server when playing x264 files

Postby trekjunky » 13 Jan 2014 01:20

I have Opensuse 13.1 64 Bit, ATI HD Radeon 5770 with proprietary driver 13.1 and KDE. I can open the VLC window, but when I select a file and start it, it appears as if it will start, but suddenly I'm at the KDE login screen. It either logged me off of KDE or crashed X. Please help.

It was my video driver. I went the OpneSuSE forum and did a search for the ATI proprietary driver install and found a 1-click install which worked. yay!!!
