"Video Acceleration (VA)" API or "Automatic"?

Hi,

I am running VLC 2.2.2 on Ubuntu 13.10 x64. The computer is an Intel i7 powered Thinkpad T430s. Under the codec settings there are two options offering hardware acceleration "Video Acceleration (VA) API" and "Automatic". Does it matter which one of these I use? I would of course like to have accelerated playback as much as possible. Also, do I need to install anything in addition to the Intel drivers to get accelerated playback?

There is no VLC 2.2.2 as yet.

I added a PPA for VLC I found on one of the Ubuntu sites (WebUpd8 or OMG! Ubuntu). I guess the version on that PPA is some sort of pre release since it specifically says VLC 2.2.2 in the About section of the player installed. I'll wait asking questions about this version until it is released. Sorry for not noticing.

There is no 2.2.2 preversion either. The latest preversion is 2.2.0-git.
