Ubuntu 13.10

Postby craaig » 22 Nov 2013 13:15

I've just downloaded and installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 13.10, currently when trying to compile the latest version of vlc (which worked fine in 13.04), i'm getting:
m.luac lua/meta/art/01_googleimage.luac lua/meta/art/00_musicbrainz.luac '/home/playout/Downloads/vlc/lib/vlc/lua/meta/art'
/bin/mkdir -p '/home/playout/Downloads/vlc/share/kde4/apps/solid/actions'
/usr/bin/install -c -m 644 solid/vlc-openbd.desktop solid/vlc-opencda.desktop solid/vlc-opendvd.desktop solid/vlc-openvcd.desktop '/home/playout/Downloads/vlc/share/kde4/apps/solid/actions'
make[3]: Leaving directory `/home/playout/Downloads/vlc/share'
make[2]: Leaving directory `/home/playout/Downloads/vlc/share'
Making install in src

GEN stamp-revision
fatal: Not a git repository: '../.git/'
cat: ./revision.txt: No such file or directory

make[1]: *** [install-recursive] Error 1

Any suggestions? Or should I go back to 13.04?

You screwed up something, possibly ran maintainerclean.

I have no idea what maintainerclean is :/

I literally just installed Ubuntu 13.10 freshly downloaded and burnt, and followed the UnixCompile guidelines. Maybe something was ran within that, but I definitely haven't ran a single command other than those listed on the UnixCompile wiki on vlc.

Any implications other than 'it's screwed up'? Because i'm aware of that.

I got VLC built in the end, I just kept redownloading / reinstalling the git and dependancies, and it finally started to build. It won't install though, a config file cannot be found, even though I have navigated to the directory it's pointing to, and it's definitely there. I deleted it, and then built it again, and still the same error, but it installs the file fine.

Weird issues, that I didn't have with 13.04. I think i'll go back.

It will be best if you go back and start again. You must made a mistake somewhere.
Good luck.
