How To Prevent VLC From Resetting Settings Each Time

Every time I start VLC, my previously saved equalizer and compressor settings are reset. Also, "enable dynamic range compressor" is turned off after I had turned it on previously last time. I even went so far as to manually edit the settings in the vlcrc. But whenever I start up VLC again the settings are reset and when I turn back on the compressor the vlcrc is overwritten with default values. Same results whether I try the standard method, the advanced settings method and through vlcrc.

Is there a way to preserve compressor settings, I should I manually set the compressor each time I play an audio or video file?

Alternatively, if VLC cannot save the settings for some reason, could I manually specify all my settings through the command line so I don't need to adjust the controls every time I play a media file?

Figured it out. There was another setting for enabling dynamic compression on a different advanced settings page that needed to be enabled.

Can you please tell me which other page I need to visit to make the compressor on stick?

In VLC 2.0.5
Open PREFERENCES
Show ALL (to get the advanced settings)
Expand the menu tree if necessary so that you can see AUDIO and under it FILTERS
Select FILTERS (don't expand the tree)
Make sure the dynamic range compressor box has a check mark in it so the text field has "compressor" appear in it
SAVE

You can expand the FILTERS tree later to change the setting manually or use the sliders in Effects and Filters found by "Strg-E"
