does vlc requires a gui ?

Postby Pintadus » 28 Jul 2005 10:30

Hello,

I'd like to know if it is necessary to have Gnome Kde or another graphical interface installed to use VLC on Linux (Ionly want to use the telnet interface)

VLC features multiple interfaces :
wxWidgets -> GUI
skins2 -> GUI
ncurses
rc (remote control)
telnet
http
lirc
....

If you configure VLC to not use any GUI modules (disable gtk, skins, wxwindows, X11 etc) then VLC will not be compiled with any GUI using modules.
Don't use PMs for support questions.

For us stoopid noobies out here, how would this be done?
I have uploaded vlc-binary.tar.gz to my server...I know I have to log into my SSH thing and

$ tar zxf vlc-binary.tar.gz

from there what would I do?
