Increasing performance

Is there possible to increase VLC performance on HD video?
While using the seeker on HD video (720p bad, 1080p worse), it is not very smooth like on SD video where seeking is almost instantaneous.
As it is now its like it pauses for 1-2 seconds before starting to play after I have jumped forward.

So how can I tweak VLC so that video seeking with HD video goes much smoother? I have 8GB of memory, Dual core 2.8GHz CPU, middle range graphic card(I think it has hardware acceleration, but not sure). Can purchasing a higher end graphic card solve my problem with bad seeking performance?

I have tried mixing video output and video mode.

Also, sometimes VLC hangs for a second or two (voice continues to play).

Run vainfo to check if you have hardware acceleration

I have a lot of memory, isn't there any way I could have VLC buffer the video in memory to make seeking faster?

I doubt it.
