how install (compile?) VLC version 2.0.x on a NAS (Synology 712+ with Intel-Atom CPU) ?

You neglected to mention what OS the NAS runs, but if it runs Linux you can try compiling it yourself: http://wiki.videolan.org/UnixCompile
