VLC Stream & Convert PRO "stopped unexpectly"

Hi there, first post on this forum so I hope I'm doing it in the correct section (sorry if I didn't).

I've just bought "VLC Stream & Convert PRO" app for my Kindle Fire (therefore Android version) since I bought it a while ago on my iPad and I was totally satisfied with it. However, just as I open the app, I get the following message: "The application VLC Stream & Convert Pro (process com.gmail.traveldevel.android.vlc.license) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again." I do receive that same error also with the free version of the app.

Is there anything you may suggest me to do or check in order to make it work? A few info in case it might help:
- not sure but I think my app version is the 1.4.0
- kindle fire firmware is 6.3.0
- kindle fire is rooted, so if necessary I can change whatever permission or grant on files and folders
