vlc won't play back dvd

Postby frank_zappa » 06 Jan 2007 17:28

hello!

I have the same problem I just installed vlc 0.8.6)on my windows machine, and in a few minutes it was up and running properly.

I then thought, oh what the hell, it was so easy on this box that I would try it on my Linux machine.

I have Suse 10.0 and vlc 0.8.6, the latest version. Everything installed fine, even libdvdcss with the current version. Alles super, right? Far from it!

Audio CD's play back without a hitch. I don't know anymore if my dvd drive is region-coded or not. I only have dvd's from one region (Euope), so that shouldn't matter.

Like you, I experience a black box for about a 1/4 of a second and then vlc quits on me.

Have you found a solution?

frank

same for vcd

Postby frank_zappa » 06 Jan 2007 17:31

I should also add that the same problem occurs when I try to play back a hand-made dvd or even a vcd.

What could be the problem? More important, what could be the solution?

Thanks in advance for all constructive help!

Frank

Frank_Zappa,

Maybe some console output of vlc -vvv could help us see an error on this.
Otherwise, all we can reply is: works for me :-(

Regards,
Dominique

hello dominique!
here's a protocol. hope you or someone else can figure it out. the last line of output doesn't appear in the file. it reads "speicherzugriffsfehler", that must mean in english something like memory error.

it doesn't matter what dvd or vcd i use. same error. in spite of what suse says, i am not haveing "fun".

here's the protocol:
