vlc crashes on dvd or .vob playback
----------------------------------------

Hi Jean-Baptiste, Hi all

My drawbacks with vlc update to 0.8.6a continue !

This time the problem is different : I don't have any more vlc-devel library on my SUSE 10.0 because it does not exist yet for 0.8.6a.
I updated vlc, vlc-debuginfo and vlc-mozillaplugin to the 0.8.6a version. It works nice excepted dvd and/or .vob playback. chmod OK, libdvdcss was already installed. Do you have any advice to orient me for identifying the origin of this problem and trying to solve it ?

additional information :with vlc 0.8.6 I did not have any problem with dvd playback
please find below my vlc debug info :

Could this be a bug ?

Postby amical187 » 15 Jan 2007 17:59

Since I did not see any reply, having really wieved all "might be" related subjects in the forum and no idea about the issues to explore I am asking myself and everyone wether this could be called a bug to report or not !

Thanks for your comments

att: videolan devs : to preceed a bug report !

Postby amical187 » 16 Jan 2007 04:02

please look at the messages in the file with the title :"Att : Jean Baptiste Kempf & other videolan gurus and dev"

My distrib : SUSE 10.0,
vlc version 0.8.6a (for SUSE 10.0),
Athlon XP 3200+
Saphire Radeon 128Mo (ATI RV280 5691)
MED MD7218 AR (lcd monitor) 1280x1024 SXGA Colors 24 Bit

The crash occurs whenever I try to playback a DVD disc (whatever it be : tried 5 different DVD's which were OK with vlc 0.8.6)
So, the problem is easily reproduced !

The issue concerne only DVD or .vob playback all other types of files present in the list of features are OK !

All librairies in the perfectly functionning 0.8.6 have been updated except from vlc-devel which has been erased because there is no 0.8.6a version. wor
Prferences have been reset several times !
DVD and .vob file playback is normally supported by vlc (version 0.8.6 for instance) & they're in the list of supported features
A search with "dvd playback crashes vlc with a segmentation fault" in the list of known and fixed issues gives nothing !
A search with "segmentation fault" in the list of known and fixed issues gives nothing related to the problem I submit !
A search with "vlc crashes " in the list of known and fixed issues gives nothing related to the problem I submit !

I searched also the forums with the same keywords I found some vlc crashes & some segmentation faults but they were not tsimilar to my problem.

I have already posted in the relevant forum (this one) "VLC media player for Linux and friends"

I have checked in wiki !

So I still think I found a bug !

I will upload the sample file when you're OK for a bug report

Thanks in advance
Best regards

Kemal

Graphic: Radeon Xpress 1150
CPU: Turion 64x2 TL52
OS: SUSE 10.2 64-bit
VLC version: 0.8.6a-3.0
libdvdnav: 0.1.10-34
libdvdread: 0.9.7-0.pm.0

I'm quiet sure it's the libdvdnav from the PackMan repository.

Revert the libdvdread and libdvdplay from PackMan back to the original ones from openSUSE 10.2.

I'm using openSUSE 10.2 64bit myself and don't have any issues, but I would never let PM update the base libs, if I'm not sure they give additional features.

grab libdvdread from http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distri ... x86_64.rpm

Get rig of libdvdplay, as it is obsoleted by libdvdnav.

Hopefully this works for you.

Regards,
Dominique
