Here a link to the missing dependency. Download the latest version for your type of distribution(Suse 10.x 586/686 or 64):
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/3/ ... ommon.so.3

Or try a older version like 0.8.5:
http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/
or from a openSuse 10.0 websource.

The first solution proposed doesn't wors for me.
Yast still says again the same message about libavahi after installing
avahi-0.6.9-2.pm.0.src.rpm

So is there any solution to install vlc under SuSE 10.1 that works ?

avahi-0.6.9-2.pm.0.src.rpm is a source(src) RPM if you install this you will find only the spec file and source below /usr/src/packages/ .

Add ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribu ... nst-source (or a mirror) to your Yast Installation Source. If you added it, Yast should resolve all dependency.

You may add PakMan too. You will find a list of install source here:
http://en.opensuse.org/Additional_YaST_ ... positories

Surprisingly, from the screenshot, I would say you have an online repository activated.

From there at least yast should find the required lib.

The missing dependency fro you can be found at:
http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distri ... 7.i586.rpm (for i586, replace i586 with x86_64 if nescessary)

The easiest would be to add the repository at
http://ftp4.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distri ... urce/suse/
to the yum sources (no refresh needed, as it's a static repo, no updates are floating in there)

Regards,
Dominique

yeah not avahi-0.6.9-2.pm.0.src.rpm (src=source) but the other one in that same link is what i mean, thisone : avahi-0.6.9-2.pm.0.i686.rpm (for I686 also for I586 IA64 & others).

So you got VLC working now?

I was so shy that I could not imagine to use a 686 rpm on X86 platform..

Yes vlc works fine one one computer but has some curious execution on an other ( Dell inspiron 8000 )
Awaking from hibernation, vlc dont' give any image sound works well.
I must end the session or resart the computer to recover picture.
A lot of other users get it see forum.

I think I must try may be to compile my kernel in order to get a sleep fonction working with Suse 10.1, then may be the last problem will disapear ?
i am not sure.

very very strange from hibernation

Postby leon » 18 Dec 2006 23:03

In my previous post I noted that waking up from hibernation, vlc gives no more picture but sound OK.
Right but more strange now
If you launch in parallel a second vlc sesion its works great I mean sound and picture
Doing it one more time session parallel 3 has no picture
Session 4 has picture......
Looks like a bug............
any idea ? or explanation ?

Leon,

maybe try creating a new thread, as it might be of wider interest than the topic 'libavahi' not found in Suse linux 10.1.
