VLC 0.8.6 playback error

Postby trek1413 » 12 Dec 2006 18:11

I just compiled vlc-0.8.6 from source on a Fedora Core 6. i tried watching an avi and got:

Code: Select all

[00000313] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `divx'. VLC probably does not support this sound or video format. NOW NULL **** [00000274] main playlist: saving Media Library to file /root/.vlc/ml.xsp Segmentation fault

What package or library am I missing?

Thanks.

Yes the same on my Slackware 11.0, it's a related problem of the lastest FFmpeg version. Look my post! You need to downgrade your FFmpeg version, on my PC work fine the version that i download in 2006/10/17 SVN

Use this comman to check it, the output come from my console

Code: Select all

root@argo:~/Desktop/vlc# vlc -v --reset-config --reset-plugins-cache -l | grep wx VLC media player 0.8.6 Janus starting VLC root wrapper... using UID 0 (root) *************************************** * Running VLC as root is discouraged. * *************************************** It is potentially dangerous, and might not even work properly. [00000001] main private warning: cannot load module `/usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so' (/usr/lib/vlc/codec/libffmpeg_plugin.so: undefined symbol: img_resample_init)

after trying several other videos of varying formats, it appears that i have no decoder moduesl installed at all. this puzzles me very greatly. Here is my configure line:

Code: Select all

./configure --enable-debug --enable-sout --enable-dvbpsi --enable-libcdio --enable-lame --enable-ffmpeg --enable-mad --enable-ogg --enable-libmpeg2 --enable-vorbis --enable-flac --enable-aa --enable-wxwidgets --with-ffmpeg-tree=/usr/local/include/ffmpeg/ --with-live555-tree=/usr/lib/live/ --enable-shared --enable-xvideo --enable-sdl --enable-faac --enable-faad2 --enable-caca --enable-aa --with-ffmpeg-mp3lame --enable-freetype --enable-fribidi --enable-speex --enable-alsa --enable-wxwindowsv --enable-live555 --enable-v4lq
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I reverted ffmpeg back to version 6600 (10-09) and then tried recompiling. But, the same issue persists.

I looked at those threads, but I am not sure if I know what you are trying to imply. I went tried an even older version of ffmpeg (r.5500 06-19), and it yielded the same results - vlc complies but will then not load any of the decoding modules.
