Hotkey Problems

Postby XenoPhex » 09 Aug 2006 09:39

I recently installed VLC on Ubuntu (just got into linux as well :P) and when I tried to set the hotkeys for forward and back (3 seconds) to just left and right arrows (by themselves) and the up and down keys to volume up and down, it didn't work. So then I switched it to Ctrl+arrow keys, it got even weirder. Now whenever I hit the Ctrl+UP ARROW, the video seeks forward a minute and when I hit Ctrl+DOWN ARROW the volume goes down. And when I hit Ctrl+LEFT or RIGHT ARROW, nothing happens. I tried hitting revert to default but that didn't help and the same problem exits (with the retared up and down thing). Does anyone know how to fix this?

1: bug with the wxWindows toolkit we fear (we are switching to QT soon)
2: probably caused because multiple functions got assigned the same hotkey combination.

I actually have the exact same issues as the OP: my ctrl+up seeks forward (instead of turning up the volume), ctrl+down turns down the volume (as it should), and ctrl+left/right don't do anything.

I know for a fact that it's not because there are multiple functions to the same hotkey, because I thought of that and checked (despite not having changed any of them in the first place), and none are the same.

This is a known bug for old version of VLC. Use the latest (0.8.5)

Hotkey Issues

Postby Sizzlor » 26 Oct 2006 22:28

Hello,

First off, since this is my first post on this board, I'd like to say THANK YOU to the dev's of this project because you guys have produced the single best media player known to man. I've been using it in Windows for a long time, and don't know what I'd do without it.

Recently I've been trying to switch over to the very popular Ubuntu linux distro. The only thing keeping me chained to Windows is VLC players hotkey functions. I cannot get it to control the volume with the mouse wheel. In Windows, I can make it work, but I have been woefully unsuccessful in Linux. This is a must-have feature for me since I have children and need to be able to control the volume dynamically very quickly without having to reach over to the keyboard.

Here are my pertinent details:

OS: Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy)
VLC Version: 0.8.6

Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks again for giving us the best media player ever!

I'm having the same problem. I can't get the arrow keys (with no alt, ctrl, etc) to do anything. I tried resetting the hotkeys and restarting the player, but it still wouldn't work.

Using Windows XP SP2, 0.8.5
