video exists but no sound with tv tuner card

video exists but no sound
hello, i'm working with a tv-tuner card (philips chip: saa7134) on fedora core 4 with the lasted kernel release 2.6.16.

I loaded the related drivers :
modprobe saa7134 tuner=37
modprobe saa7134-alsa index=1

the comand I use is
vlc v4l:// :v4l-vdev="/dev/video" :v4l-adev="/dev/dsp1" :v4l-norm=0 :v4l-frequency=607250 :v4l-caching=300 :v4l-chroma="YV12" :v4l-fps=25.0 :v4l-samplerate=48000 :v4l-channel=0 :v4l-tuner=-1 :v4l-audio=-1 :v4l-stereo :v4l-width=720 :v4l-height=528
as a result of this command I only get a video out but no audio.

with xawtv I get sound and video,

in my computer:
cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [SI7012 ]: ICH - SiS SI7012
SiS SI7012 with ALC655 at 0xd800, irq 17
1 [SAA7134 ]: SAA7134 - SAA7134
saa7134[0] at 0xed104000 irq 18

ls -l /dev/dsp*
crw------- 1 root root 14, 3 Apr 9 2006 /dev/dsp
crw-rw---- 1 root root 14, 19 Apr 8 22:45 /dev/dsp1

how can I solve this problem ?
thanks in advance

I had similar problem and it disappeared after launching the gnome mixer and marked 'v' in the "record" box for line-in column. (also for capture card)
my audio out of the capture card is connected to line-in of the onboard (nforce2) sound card.

I had same problem. VLC didn't play sound from TV card but xawtv did. I found that i have to switch tunner parameter called MUTE by execute "v4lctl audio mute off". You can show current setting by invoking "v4lctl list".

But I have another problem now. Sound is playing directly by both CD-in and Line-in but VLC don't want to get sound from audio source for network streaming purpose. I tryed :v4l-adev=/dev/dsp, :v4l-adev=/dev/audio, :v4l-adev=/dev/mixer but withou succes. I dont know how VLC is obtaining audio from ALSA. Which device I should select and with which parameters?

no sound

Chronos, i tested your solution but it doesn't work too: no sound. What do you think with 'v'? i'm not sure to have understood.

On the contrary, the second solution with "v4lctl audio mute off" works for me (i must replace "audio" with "volume" but it's fine). I notice the same problems : CD-in and Line-in work together and streaming doesn't work.
I'm looking after ...

By 'v' I ment that the (alsa)mixer settings should reflect the fact that line-in audio source is being recorded.
Thus the following line allows me to stream tv capture (tvchamp card - saa7134, which is misrecognized as 10moons card and doesn't create /dev/dsp1 device) into a pocket pc tcpmp (I'm still experimenting what's the best bitrate to stream over wi-fi/lan, vb=384 and ab=96 doesn't hangup on axim x51v and on pentium II clients).
vlc -vv v4l:/dev/video0:norm=pal:size=640x480:adev=/dev/dsp:audio=0 --ttl 12 --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,acodec=vorb,vb=800,ab=128,deinterlace}:std{access=http,mux=ogg,url=192.168.2.103:8080}'

Thanks,Thanks
Ok, sound ok, streaming ok :D :D

it works for me with that ( :audio=0 is the THING):
v4l:/dev/video0:norm=secam:size=640x480:adev=/dev/dsp:audio=0 --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mp4v,vb=3072,scale=1,acodec=mpga,ab=192,channels=2}:duplicate{dst=std{access=udp,mux=ts,url=192.168.2.3:1234}}'

The little problem is that vlc don't close the sound at the end , I must run : v4lctl volume mute on

Collins,
