sid+vlc-svn+mkv/x264-ogg

Postby harisson » 19 Feb 2006 19:23

Hello,

I switch my etch to sid and compile vlc from SVN I can't play any mkv (x264/ogg) file, it crashes with this message :

Code: Select all

VLC media player 0.8.5-svn Janus *** glibc detected *** free(): invalid pointer: 0x08852c80 *** Abandon
I tried with ffmpeg-cvs fom yesterday and with the regular ffmpeg/libavcodecs packages supply with sid.

The debian nightlies crash too with these mkv files :-( .

Could you provide a gdb backtrace ?
Which version of libmatroska and libebml do you have.

Do these files play with other player/OS ?

well, i'm using :

gcc version 4.0.3 20060128
libebml 0.7.6-2
libmatroska 0.8.0-1

the gdb bt :

This file works with latest vlc-win nightly build on my w2k and mplayer on my sid.

Hi again,

I've tested some mkv files on ubuntu nightlies build , vlc doesn't crash but the picture is crappy like in this thread : viewtopic.php?t=15757&highlight=ubuntu

and vlc seems to be not very stable by reading these files (when i move the window, it crashes).

Do you have these problems with yours "Debian" system ? (Or maybe you don't care about it ?)

Hi again,

Some good news :-) , i've tested the 0.8.6-svn from today with some libc* upgrade and vlc doesn't crash anymore and mkv+x264+ogg goes well :-).

I've downgraded to vlc 0.8.5-test3 with the same libc* libs and vlc doesn't crash anymore but the images are choppy like the link i gave before witth x264 and mp4v codecs. There are some mp4a decoding isuues too with the 0.8.6-svn.
