VLC tells me to check the log for details... where is it?

Postby przxqgl » 19 Nov 2024 07:06

i use kubuntu 24.04 and VLC 3.0.20, and i have all my music stored on a QNAP NAS.

previously, i have been able to drag the music files from the QNAP to VLC, and it would play them, but then i had to change my NAS password, and now i get the following message:

Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'smb://path.to.the.nas/XXX.flac'. Check the log for details.

but i can't find the log anywhere.

i'm fairly sure fixing this is going to be relatively easy, but i don't even know where to start. any clues?

i can't find the log anywhere.

Open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback.

okay, that gives me A LOT more information, but it doesn't tell me how to change the password for accessing my QNAP...

here's another weird thing...

if i drag the music files from the QNAP to the playback window of VLC, i get the error that i reported previously.

however...

if i drag the music files from the QNAP to the VLC icon in my task bar, they will play without giving me that error.

if playback is already in process, the playback jumps from where it is, currently, to the beginning of the first music file i have just dragged to the VLC icon. i have to click the previous file to get it to play back.

when i drag to the VLC icon, they show up as "documents", but when i drag to the playback window, they appear as URIs.
