Reduce webcam streaming file size

Postby vlc-ra » 13 Oct 2024 19:24

:geek:

I'm using VLC 3.0.16 on linux Ubuntu 22.04.

I want to record video from a webcam, which VLC does very well at, with one problem.

The resultant files VLC saves during recording grow at a rate of several gigs every few minutes - I need to reduce that greatly.

Under menu > open media > capture device > options > video standard, there are numerous
options, I tried using a few with no success in file size reduction.

Any suggestions? Is there some other menu setting that will work?

Thanks for reading and any help, RA

Uh, analogue video standards are only for analogue video capture.

You need to transcode with Convert/Save if you want digital compression.
