request to developers

Postby poibuklo » 03 Nov 2023 12:41

Hello. I have a request to the developers. Please add the ability to create automatic subtitles for videos and translate them into different languages. I think it will be useful for people with hearing loss. Thank you

You mean VLC should listen to the audio and transcribe to text automatically?

That doesn't seem to be really practical during real time playback yet. Speech to text technology requires processing the audio many seconds ahead, which is a major problem to integrate it in a media player.

I'm pretty sure that YouTube does it offline on their cloud.

So this is going to require a lot of work, and as is unfortunately usual for accessibility-related feature requests, there does not seem to be much of any funding for it.
