VLC did play web sites like Youtube. As the VLC menu demonstrates.
Open Media, network stream, select the network tab and below it shows http://www.example.com/stream.avi clearly demonstrating that VLC is capable of playing web content.
The example i provided is from VLC itself!! So you are saying VLC in correctly placed an example in its own application. Take a look at the pictures that VLC provides form the web site I already provided https://www.reddit.com/r/VLC/comments/1 ... b_content/
I am talking about playing a HTTPS file and you said it never played https which is incorrect.
It should be obvious but the example is but an example. Example.com doesn't actually exist; it's reserved for writing examples. Of course it can't be played.

It appears that VLC on Linux possible all version has now prevented playing https videos. A post demonstrates that it was possible to play https videos from Youtube but it no longer works on 3.0.1.8. See below.
