How create full screen mp4 no sizing black bg

Hi On a linuxmint 20.3 system we want to play mp4's from the HDD. Any video should be played in its real size, no over/up scaling. The background should be black so if the video is smaller then the screen it has a black frame. Controls only appear when mouse is moved. Can't get this simple settings right. Been spending bloody long time in trying. Can't figure it out.

How get the controls shown (for moving the slider + 10 minutes or so) when cursor/mouse is moved downwards?

I'm not sure to grasp what your issue is with controls if you are in fullscreen and using the GUI the control overlay should appear as soon as you move your cursor

I've installed

vlc --noautoscale

Then open an mp4 by clicking on it. Beuatiful black border. Can move forward-backward with > and <
But control overlay does not appear when moving cursor.

As she said, the full-screen controller only shows in full-screen mode. No changes there.
