VLC 4.0.0-dev Otto Chriek - rtsp works, OpenGL GLX broken.

installed from Snap..
https://snapcraft.io/vlc
$ sudo snap install vlc --edge

Easy to know OpenGL is Broken:
#1. High CPU Load.
#2. NVidia GPU HW Sharpness at 100% is very soft, barely noticeable.
CPU X11 XCB Sharpness at 100% is Overkill.

3.0.16 Vetinari
OpenGL GLX works Ok.
has 2 OpenGL,
Normal and OpenGL2
OpneGL2 does Not work, broken.

VLC 4.0.0-dev removed the wrong/working OpenCL module.

Nvidia Propietary driver 470 tested.
Kubuntu 21.10
PNY GT 740 pcie
Thunderbolt2
Macmini 2014 8gb
Apple TB2 TB3 bidirectional-adapter.
Razer Core X Chroma eGpu, see www.egpu.io for more.

Sharpness also does Not work well in Otto unless i click save.
with a short video in loop mode.

There is one GL output and one GL ES 2 output in 4.0 like there were in 3.0.

Just because GL ES doesn't apply to your system doesn't make it broken. Obviously it's not meant for desktop GPUs.

but None works in 4.0.0-Beta.

1 was working in 3.0.16

i dont have "stange" Hardware,
a basic Nvidia GT 740, that is 1000x better than Intel iHD 4th gen.

The OpenGL video output works fine with GLX here (NVIDIA GTX950, driver version 510.73.08).

Linux latest update seems to be phasing-out / leaving-out / removing support for old hardware...
i think i need to start saving $ to buy a better video card anyway...
No VP9 HW acceleration = High CPU load = Unacceptable.

Support Removed.
CPU can do everything, but dedicated HW is better.
Intereresting to test AC Wall power consumption CPU vs. HW Accelerated,
Sharpness in GPU is weaker vs. CPU sharpness but HW GPU sharpness feels Higher Quality, more Natural because it has more parallel processing, less interrupts.

[SOLVED Partially...]

Depreciation of old hardware is quite slow and especially for GPU, I don't think that would be the issue. But you're running on X11 with vaapi and the vaapi intel driver on a mac mini right?

Kubuntu 21.10
Nvidia Propietary Driver 470
Nvidia GT 740 PCIe
VLC OpenGL GLX
H264 HW acceleration works in VLC 3.0.16
VLC 4.0.0-Beta HW acceleration does Not work.

----

Removed Nvidia GT 740
Installed AMD HD 7950,

VLC No HW acceleration,
CPU only h.264

HD7950
i can verify with KDE Compositor, wobbly window effect, works with OpenGL 3.1 & OpenGL 2.0
but..
VLC 3.0.16 HW acceleration does Not work with AMD HD7950.
