Kernelupdate Raspberry

Postby Akoryuerek » 04 Oct 2021 21:56

Hi guys,

Since the last kernelupdate to 5.10.63 raspian lite VLC (vlc 3.0.12 veterina) doesn’t work. It’s no more possible to playback http or rtsp streams. I checked the release notes and they also updated the videocore firmware. Maybe this could be the reason. I have flashed a new image everything works below 5.10.63. Can anyone reproduce or confirm this?

Best regards

I'm having the exact same problem. Been searching all day for a solution, no luck so far. Not sure your use case, but I'm sending an RTSP feed directly to the display via the command line without a window manager. I'll also note that after running an upgrade, the RTSP feeds worked fine, it was only after I reboot into the new kernel/firmware that it stopped working. Literally nothing happens. I've tested 4 different PIs including both new and old models and all are behaving the same way. The only vlc display arguments I use are: -I dummy --qt-fullscreen-screennumber=2 The end of my -vvv output is below

I have a solution for you. Just downgrade with

sudo rpi-update cb70bb6d7dd3327c539dd90090c1ec88006dbcef

and reboot

thx! works great.

How did you figure out it to roll it back to the Aug 18th, 2021 commit?

Digging a little deeper, for the Sep 21st commits, 1e494f150046bd04331ab0b19e4e5322eb7b7773 is ok, but 15471b6e99b6db2f3206f0aed67d0aebbfc9f9cf fails.

This seems to imply that the commit " firmware: video_decode: Ensure all buffers are flushed before port disable completes"
is the one that is breaking things for me.

I am a new raspberry pi user attempting to stream an IP camera to the HDMI output using VLC. This works on a Windows laptop and an Android tablet. It does not work on the raspberry with the included VLC. I note that my new Rpi is kernel 5.10.63 and VLC is 3.0.12, so I fell into the same crack as others on this thread, apparently. Is anyone close enough to the OS development cycle to be able to estimate when the next update might be issued and whether it might include a fix for the VLC issue?

I gleaned from scuttlebutt that the issue might be related to Digital Rights Management (DRM) and/or licensing of codecs for VLC. No idea whether that is credible.

I noticed that there was a recent update to VLC, was this to address this issue?
I have Pis showing UDP streams which are still broken.
Thanks
