Resume / Continue Play only works on files smaller than 2 GB

Postby onetruecliff » 10 Jan 2021 01:01

VLC is not consistent with resuming / continuing play from videos. After a lot of testing, it seems that if the video is over the size of 2.0 GB, it will not remember the position you left off from. Is this a problem other people have noticed? Is this a bug I should report? Or it is intentional? Does this happen on Windows?

System Details:

Code: Select all

Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description: Ubuntu 20.10 Release: 20.10 Operating System: Kubuntu 20.10 KDE Plasma Version: 5.19.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.74.0 Qt Version: 5.14.2 Kernel Version: 5.8.0-34-generic OS Type: 64-bit Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Radeon RX 580 Series
VLC version: 3.0.11.1-2

If anyone knows a workaround for this behavior, I would love to know.

VLC remembers the time, not the byte offset. This has nothing to do with file size.

Sounds more like VLC cannot seek the file. Notably AVI format sucks over 2 GiB.
