Streaming over HDMI cable to VLC

Postby robertdaleweir » 03 Apr 2020 17:58

Hi
I have been using VLC for years. It is really great. I have a desire to 'stream and/or capture', on my Computer, the stream coming from my Set Top Box over an HDMI cable. I have success setting up a Video Capture Surveillance System using an open source Capture Application. Since it is using IP Cameras I have used RTSP protocol. I worked extremely hard to get the correct addressing for the devices (cameras) with enough specificity to get it working.
Where could I find the specific syntax to allow me to use VLC to stream and/or capture video on my Linux computer. The settings, I am sure I can handle, once I get the correct address/device call, or whatever it is called. I have searched the Internet but all I could find is streaming from a computer to a TV and not the other way around.
Any heads up on my issue would be greatly appreciated...

Maybe there is a better forum for my question. Maybe someone could advise...
