[Debian] Crash after update

im not the most up-to-date person , i run the updates manually
Today did an "full" update (apt-get update + apt-get upgrade) and VLC stop working. i don't have the full list of packages updated but my last update was 5-6 months ago.


i can see the vlc's window open and the video load, but it closes immediately , i don't hear any sound
if i open vlc without a video, i see the window then the application closes .

what can i do to fix this?

That looks like a bug in Debian's libebml, not (Debian's) VLC. You may need to reinstall compatible package pairs, whichever the working versions used to be.

i don't have any alternatives for this packages. Other than download source code and compile it, i don't know what to do.

I read about how to report a bug and it need install and compile source code to get the debug info, then, im uninstall this and wait until i have some spare time to do the bug report.

I shall agree with Gabrel.

I had a very similar problem and after 3 weeks I tried
vlc --reset-config
and all was good.
