Slideshow with RSS

I am trying to create a slideshow using a series of jpg files which display for 30 seconds each.
I have this part working with filename display suppressed.
The changes are instant, no dissolves. I can sort this by converting the jpgs to short videos.
At the same time I want to display a RSS news file on the screen.
I have this working
BUT
When the slide changes the RSS feed is interrupted and starts again.
It also interrupts audio if I am playing audio but this can be circumvented by connecting audio directly.
Is there an option that allows slide changeover without restarting the RSS?
