Safe to Install?

Postby Gord » 15 Dec 2005 06:31

I'm trying to install vlc on Ubuntu Breezy using the Synaptic Package Manager. When I go to install it, is says:

Depends: dbus-1 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libhal0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: wxvlc but it is not going to be installed

So then I try to install those libraries and it lists about 50 packages to be removed, including "ubuntu-desktop", "update-manager" and "nautilus" to name a few. Those are all pretty important pieces of the OS, so if I go to do this, will it totally mess things up?

Please bear in mind I'm fairly new to Linux, so I'm a little unsure how things work. Thanks.

If you have up-to-date package lists, seems that the packages are broken. See the vlc package bug reports for information, file a report or contact the package maintainers.
