Pixelation and messed up video only when scrubbing

Postby road hazard » 12 Aug 2017 00:00

Using Antergos, VLC v2.2.6-2 with Nvidia proprietary driver v384.59. I only see this problem with VLC, not with Totem and not in MPV.

When I'm watching a video and drag the slider to skip to another part of the movie and release it, the video pauses for a few seconds...... then I get a weird graphic mess on the screen and then the playback resumes normally. Any idea what's causing this? I've seen this behaviour repeated in other distros so it's not specific to Antergos and since I don't have the problem with Totem or MPV, I don't think it's my video drivers.

I have tried making adjustments to the Input/Output codec section by playing with the different hardware decoding methods and nothing really seems to matter. Any idea?

Are you using the same output plugin for Totem and MPV? Otherwise, this is comparing apples and oranges.

I'm kinda sorta a n00b when it comes to Linux. If you can tell me where to check for those settings in MPV and Totem, I'll gladly do so.
