Point A to Point B looping question

Postby markcovalt » 20 Dec 2012 06:26

Hello VLC Crew,

I have a simple request. I'm sure the answer is simple too, but I have not been able to find it...

Some of my MP4's have musical sections that I would like to play on a loop.

I found the A-B button on the advanced controls toolbar. It does not seem to work properly. (Or I'm just not using it properly.)

Is there a simple keyboard short cut for marking Point A and then Point B? (In the GOMplayer I just use '[' and ']' and it's done.)

Using VLC 2.0.3 (TwoFlower) on Ubuntu 12.04 Studio distro.

Can anybody shoot a quick answer, please?

I found the A-B button on the advanced controls toolbar. It does not seem to work properly. (Or I'm just not using it properly.)
The first click sets point A, the second click sets point B. A third click resets/clears the AB loop. If you want to see the button in the fullscreen toolbar you can add it by going to "Tools >> Customize Interface..." and adding it to the "Fullscreen Controller".

I had a look and it doesn't look like the A to B function is an option in the hotkeys. After browsing the source code it seem to be hardcoded to "Shift+L":
http://git.videolan.org/?p=vlc.git;a=bl ... r.cpp#l336

Think it's interface-specific hence why it's not part of the hotkeys.

So use "Shift+L" or the button.

Arite.

Wow! For many years I assumed there was NOT a hotkey for A-B Loop. Now I know differently. Thank you!

I'm still not able to get the AB repeat to work properly using either the AB repeat button in Advanced options or using Shift-L. It loops but only about 7 to 10 seconds before the end of the loop I wanted. In other words, the starting point is not where I put it--the loop only goes back to about 7 seconds before where the loop ends. It should go back about 2 minutes.
I tried different screen sizes but it seems to do the same in every size I tried.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Note: I'm using VLC Player 2.2.5 Weatherwax.

Seeking precision varies a lot, and there is not a lot to do about it. This is probably not an issue with A-B as such.
