... Did a lot of searching in these forums today; it appears lots of people post questions regarding high CPU usage but nobody seems to have a clue as to why and - if they do - they keep it to themselves!

Don't the developers have some idea ...?

i guess the cpu useage has something to with what codec the video is in. If you want to use hardly any cpu play a unencoded avi file that should use no cpu at all.
